SWEATPROOF SUMMER FOUNDATION ROUTINE

Hi y’all! Now that school is finally out we can relax and get some of that “me” time in, go out and enjoy the summer weather.

Although most of us do love the summer sun, it can also be your makeup’s worst enemy if you’re not careful. That’s why I’m here to help!

There are some components of a foundation routine that are most important when trying to prevent it from literally “melting” off of your face. The right primer and foundation are key and ensuring you set your makeup (even if your skin is on the dry side) is very
important.

STEP ONE: PRIMING
Preferably, any primer labeled “24-hour” or “Longwearing” you should gravitate towards. Also, try and stay away from silicone primers. Although they may feel comfortable on the skin, they make your makeup more prone to slipping and sliding once it becomes humid.

Primers that keep you matte without being too drying are the BEST choice for the hot weather. Some that I recommend are:

Fenty Beauty's Pro Filt'r Instantt Retouch Primer
    (Sephora.com)
Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer – This primer feels like a thin lotion going on making it super comfy but it still controls oils!
Benefit Porefessional Matte Rescue Primer – One of my personal favorites. Goes on like a gel, dries down completely and keeps me matte!
Smashbox Finish Primer Water – This primer is a mist, it’s light and keeps your makeup on all day. I’d recommend this more to those with normal skin, who don’t have too many concerns about being too oily or too dry.

STEP TWO: FOUNDATION
Not to make this sound scary, but foundation can literally make or break your entire look. If it’s not fit for humidity, your foundation can separate and melt off. To prevent this, again, you want to gravitate towards longwearing, mattifying or oil controlling
foundations.

If you’re looking for medium to full coverage foundations, below are some recommendations of mine:

Maybelline Fit Me! Matte + Poreless – One of my favorite foundations of all time! It’s super affordable and longwearing. The shade range is not the best, but if you’re able to find your shade, it’s definitely worth a try.
Kat Von D Lock It Foundation – This is another foundation that I swear by, I used this foundation for prom and graduation, and it withstood and entire day’s worth of activities. The coverage is full, lasts very long but it MUST be set. If not, you’ll run the risk of transfer.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation – Riri did it with this one. Shade range: BOMB. Coverage: BOMB. Longevity: BOMB. It’s perfect for all-day wear and works for any skin type!

MakeupForever Ultra HD Foundation – This foundation makes you look airbrushed and lasts all day long. The range is great, but I would definitely get shade matched if you’re a beginner to makeup. The undertones of the shades can be a bit tricky.
MAC Waterproof Pro Longwear Foundation – If you’re a MAC girl like I am, you’ll love this foundation. It lasts all day, and when it says waterproof – it means it. It lasts forever and not a drip of sweat will phase it.

STEP THREE: CONCEALER
Now that your base is on, you want to conceal those under-eyes. With concealer, you don’t want anything too thick to prevent creasing, but if you are a full coverage girl like  me, don’t go for anything to sheer either.

Some concealers I recommend are:

L.A. Girl Pro Concealer
(LA Girl Cosmetics)

ColourPop #NoFilter Concealer – Not only is this concealer super cheap, it’s coverage is amazing, it’s shade range is A-1 and it stays matte all day without being drying. I’d highly recommend this for any skin type.
L.A. Girl Pro Concealer – This is an oldie but a goodie. One of my ride or die products that I will always go back to when in doubt. It’s super affordable and has a great range of shades. The coverage is buildable and it doesn’t budge once its set.

NYX Gotcha Covered Concealer —This is a waterproof concealer that is on the thick side and does take a bit of work when using, so I wouldn’t say this is beginner friendly. However, when I did use it, I thought it was flawless all day and only creased towards the 9 to 10-hour mark of wearing it.

STEP FOUR: SETTING
Setting is one of those key steps that you MUST do when trying to achieve a sweat-proof look. Now, it doesn’t really matter what you set with. It all depends on if you’re looking for a powder with coverage or not, and if you prefer loose or pressed powders.

Some of my recommendations for all-over face powders are:

Covergirl Professional Loose Powder – I personally love baking my face with this loose powder, it provides light to medium coverage and keeps my makeup set all day even in the sun. Its affordable, but the shade range is not the best.
Black Opal Loose Powder – The range of shades this powder has is great, it’s easily found in the drug store and works great for baking the face.
L’Oreal True Match Pressed Powder -- This is a full-coverage pressed powder that’s very comparable to the MAC Studio Finish powder. It keeps your makeup set all day and adds just the right amount of coverage.

When setting the under-eye specifically, I’d recommend baking. Baking doesn’t have to be too long if you’re concerned about your  under-eye looking too dry – a minute or two will do. I personally have quite oily under-eyes (who knew that was a thing), so bake for
anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes.

Some of my undereye powder recommendations:

Covergirl Professional Loose Powder – This loose powder works great for under the eyes as well, but with the lighter shades be very careful not to bake for too long. It can cause some flashback if you get too carried away.

Sacha Buttercup Powder – This a yellow-based powder perfect for medium, tan and deep skin tones. Not only is this a black owned makeup brand (BOMB), but it’s affordable and keeps your concealer right where you want it.
