MY SECOND YEAR. (BY NILE FROM UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND)
New faces. New classes. New living.
Hey guys, it Nile. Almost two weeks ago, I moved back on campus. This year is my sophomore year, and I thought I should take you guys on a journey through my first week of classes.
I moved in on August 20th, and came back to campus on August 23rd. I hung out with friends, and the first day of classes was on August 28th. I highlighted a few days from my first week and shared what I did. Scroll down to see.
Monday.
My first class is at 11:00am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Because it was the first day, I woke up at 8:45am, and got ready to start the first day. Around 9:30, I made breakfast. I made oatmeal with bananas, granola, peanut butter, and cinnamon sprinkled on top. The cinnamon and cayenne pepper containers in my cabinet look the same and I was moving too fast and almost sprinkled cayenne pepper instead of cinnamon on my oatmeal. Close call.
For lunch, I had pasta salad that one of my roommates made, I met up with friends in between classes, and that evening, I went to the annual BSU cookout. We danced, ate, laughed, and reconnected with each other after a long summer. I had a meeting later on and went back home, did the little homework I had, and went to sleep. First day--done.
Thursday.
(I did the usual. I woke up, got dressed, brushed my teeth, washed my face, ate, etc.) On Thursdays, my first class starts at 12:30pm and I don't have another class until 5:00pm, leaving me with plenty of free time. I had a quiz in my Chinese class, and had another one the next day. So of course, I was in the library studying.
I spent a few hours studying and doing assignments for other classes. After my last class of the day, I knocked out some more work and at 7:45pm, I headed to a very popular BSU event called Juke Joint.
It was the first Juke Joint of the year so it was PACKED. Even though I was in the waaaaay back for most of the performances, I enjoyed every moment of it. The spoken word, the singing, the rapping, the dancing--everything. Afterwards, I took the shuttle home, and I studied some more, and went to sleep.
Friday.
Like any other day, I got up, got ready, and ate breakfast. Same old, same old. I went to my 11:00am, and then I had to do some "adulting" because it's the first of month--so you know what that means.
Other than that, I was ecstatic to have made it through the first week of sophomore year. One week down, many more to go. I finished all of my quizzes and assignments of the week, so I felt like I earned a treat. What did I do? I got myself some Chipotle.
I left Chipotle and went back home, and found my roommates baking brownies (with walnuts) and they even bought ice cream. It was lit. Later that night, I ended up ordering pizza and watching a movie with a friend, and then I went home.
I MADE IT THROUGH THE FIRST WEEK OF SOPHOMORE YEAR.
Saturday.
It's game day. When you go to a large Division I school, game day is a pretty big deal. It was the first game of the season, and we played Texas.
I decided to go with a few friends to the student union to watch the game, and WE HAD A BLAST. We cheered, we laughed, we clapped, we gave each other high fives, and WE WON. Even though it was a rainy and chilly day, we still managed to have fun. I would do it all over again.
In the end, my first week was a good one. I love my classes, I got to hang out with old friends and made new ones, and I got to watch my team win. Let's see what this year brings.
